As I was out on my daily constitutional, just before it started to rain (again), I was surprised at how frequently my mood changed – or should I say my point of view.
This first hit me just as I set off on my walk, I noticed how humid and warm it was, despite it not being all that sunny.
I immediately felt all warm and summery inside – how lovely it is to be able to go out for a walk without a big heavy jumper on.
As I continued my summery perspective continued too – I looked up to see beautiful blue skies peeping through fluffy, picture postcard white clouds.
I was feeling decidedly light and airey. All felt ok in my summery perspective.
Carrying on I saw hedgrows full to bursting with greenery and some flowers too – not much fruit yet though. I love this sight, it takes me back to going blackberry picking in the country roads with my grandparents when I was a little girl.
A somewhat bittersweet, nostalgic perspective.
I took this perspective with me as I went on my way and as I looked across the hedgrows into the fields beyond I smiled to myself as I saw a horse rolling around in the grass, having a bit of fun, perhaps a good scratch. He didn’t care about the weather, in fact he seemed not to have a care in the world.
I felt lighter again – a more fun perspective came over me. It was almost as if a weight had been lifted from me, a sort ” oh so what, isn’t that what life is all about” kind of feeling.
As I walked on I started to doubt my decision not to take an umbrella with me – the black clouds loomed and strangely, thoughts as black as the sky threatened to overcome me.
A heavy black, threatening perspective. Just what did I think I was doing – off out for a walk when I should be working? Ho hum…
I thought back to the horse rolling around in the field – What did he care about work ? And there I was straight back into the fun perspective.
Opening your eyes
Now, I’m not unaccustomed to looking at things from different points of view – I do alot of work on this through my Life Coaching but I was struck at just how easy it can be to slip out of one perspective and into another. Obviously this has its good and its bad points. It was as easy to slip into a negative perspective as it was a positive one.
AND also just how easy it can be to see different points of view if we only open our eyes.
So how can you use this in real life ?
Explore all of them, each perspective – the fun, the light, the black, the melancholy, the summery. Find the good and bad in all of them because there is always good and bad in everything.
Then when faced with an issue, decision or problem get into the perspective that is going to serve you the most – the one that is going to move you forward.
