Are you hiding who you really are ?

Show the world who you really are, warts and all!

I laughed  ( Mr Bond) and cried (Abide with me) through last nights simply stunning opening ceremony, along with the other 22+ million viewers!

About halfway through I realised that it would most probably be considered somewhat controversial.

Why? Because it celebrated our eccentricity, our uniqueness, our heritage, our strengths and our weaknesses but above all this what stood out for me was the fact that we seemed to be telling the world  ” This is who we are and we are rightly proud of it – like it or lump it”

Jasper Rees BBC journalist wrote today ” Unlike its 2008 predecessor, this opening ceremony laid careful stress on what we like to think of as the British virtues – individual genius, imaginative flair, freedom of expression and wit.” Perfect.

For once we did not pander to any kind of political correctness or tried to accomodate for “everyone”. Yes there were parts that the non-British amongst us would probably not fully understand but would they enjoy it nonetheless – yes I think so,  would they be under any doubt as to what we stand for, no I don’t think so.

Be true to yourself

As the old saying goes ” You can please some of the people, some of the time…..” So maybe in that case it’s better not to try and just go ahead and please ourselves ?

This certainly comes up alot in coaching and is a perfect representation of the work we strive to do. I encourage you to shine authentically as you, be real, be gritty, be honest and above all be true to who you are.

Do you ever worry about what people think of you ? About how you might be perceived?

If you hide your true self how will the world ever discover your unique gifts ?

We were left in no doubts that Danny Boyle is a uniquely talented man, with a love for music, for humour, for storytelling and for the truth.  There was huge emphasis placed upon the “normal” person; the 7000 volunteers who participated fully in the ceremony, the youngsters and children who had centre stage – this speaks of his value of inspiring others and of fair recognition.

Do you know who you are?

Who are you? What are your values, your talents and gifts?

What is your Life Purpose?
